So I've decided to independently learn Korean, which is already off to a rough start. I know, independent learning sucks and greatly hinders the process, but this is more of a thing to do when I'm bored, I guess.



Basically, I'm unsure as to the double sounds that some consonants seem to have. For example:



ㄱis romanized as k AND g, but from what a Korean friend tells me, it's always pronounced as a...slur of the two, almost. This is different from what I read, saying that the sound is K at the beginning of a syllable, and G at the end.



The same applies to ㅂwhich is romanized as P, but as far as I can gather, is pronounced as B.



Could someone please clarify?
