OK! I am at Incheon International Airport now! It is the best airport I've been to, followed by KL, Shanghai Pudong and even Adelaide now is very nice.
I had a wonderful time in Korea. It is a totally great country. The people are outstandingly friendly and hospitable. I spent by far most of my time in Busan. Wow! Busan (or I think it sounds a lot more like Pusan! see next paragraph!) is a great city! Anyway, my question from the title is: Incheon: (or Cheongju and many others, for example) is eo usually pronounced like which of the following English words. I know some of them are wrong, and I know the real pronunciation is probably softer than all of them! 1. "a", for example "a" dog. (Inch"a"n) . 2. "e", for example "net". (Inch"e"n). 3. "u", for example "pool". (Inch"oo"n). 4. "o", for example British "dog", Japanese "o"haiyo.... also, I think it should be spelt Pusan, Taegu, Kimpo, Cheju and so on and so on! Really, I know the government changed it, but I think they made a silly decision. What is the real reason they wanted the English spelling to be B and D and J, etc? I know foreign spoeakers used to pronounce Korean not so well before the change (for example, Pusan, etc.) but, really, when I hear Korean, it is MUCH closer to P and T and CH than the new letters! |
