Neowa (shingle çatı) House - 너와집 (19. yüzyılın sonlarından bu yana inşa edilmiş)

20. yüzyılın başlarında inşa edilen bu ev, Nari merkezinde yerel kilise yakınındadır. O neowa (shingle çatı) tarzı bir evdir. Evin çevresini aslında mısır sapından yapılmış ama yirmizci yüzyılın başlarında ev daha da korunaklı bir hale gelsişn diye ahşap haline getirilmiştir.

Evin ilk Kore yerleşimciler Ulleung'dir.1800'lerin başında buraya yerleşmişlerdir.Erken yerleşimciler evin ana odasının çevresinde korunaklı bir koridor oluşturarak, dokuma mısır sapının yanı sıra ikinci bir duvar ile bütün evi kuşatarak adadaki yoğun kardan koruma yoluna gitmişlerdir.Bu ikinci duvar ve bireysel odalarına girişlerinde engellemeler kar yığınlarırdan ve rüzgardan korur.

GPS okumaları göre, sitenin 37 31,25580 'N, 130 52,2626 4' de olduğu E (WGS84 harita verisi). Adres: 경북 울릉군 북면 나리 111-1 번지 외.

Neowa (shingle-roof) House - 너와집 (built late 19th century onward)

This house, built in the early 20th century, sits near the local church at the center of Nari. It is the only neowa (shingle-roof) style house surviving on the island. The perimeter of the house was originally sheltered by walls made of corn stalks, but these were replaced with wooden walls sometime in the late twentieth century.

The house was constructed in the early twentieth century after a style that prevailed in the 1880s, when the first Korean settlers arrived on Ulleung-do from Gangwon province. The early settlers adapted their homes to the treacherous snow of Ulleung island by surrounding the entire house with a second wall of woven corn stalks, creating a sheltered corridor around the main rooms of the house. This second wall prevented snowdrifts from blocking entrances to the individual rooms, and also provided protection from the wind.

According to GPS readings taken by the author, the site is at 37 31.25580' N, 130 52.26264' E (WGS84 map datum). Address: 경북 울릉군 북면 나리 111-1번지 외.
