Seoul hosted the second largest number of international gatherings among Asian cities last year. According to a report from the Union of International Associations (UIA) published recently. Singapore came first in Asia and fourth worldwide with 177 events, and Seoul was ninth in the world with 103 events. Next in Asia were Istanbul (17th place), Beijing (18th) and Tokyo (25th). The top three internationally were Paris (294), Vienna (245) and Brussels (189).



The UIA defines “international events” as gatherings sponsored or supported by an international organization with at least 300 participants, at least 40 percent of them foreigners, who meet for at least three days. Seoul has been steadily rising through the ranks, climbing from 15th in 2003 (87 events) to 10th in 2004 (109 events).
